The benefits of talking to someone in counselling are as varied as going to a doctor.
People usually seek some kind of resolution to a problem they are facing, gain insight or find understanding to a situation that doesn't make sense. That might include improving a relationship either personal or at work, help with depression, find release from past hurts, anxiety or fear. Dealing with the overwhelming task of parenting or grief over the loss of a loved one or a business failure are common times we need help to move forward.
Frequently, the thing we are finding answers for, is not the thing we really need to discover. People can be looking for a way to solve conflict but my really need to resolve an ongoing problem of anger or resentment that is standing in the way of successful communication.
We also need the support of others at particularly stressful times, as when there is conflict in the home, an addiction that is getting worse, or we just can't understand why we can't find contentment in life no matter what we do.
These are just a few of the benefits of counselling.
